Debaters Present Confidence Vote To Their Officers

Members of the Debate Council last night gave a vote of confidence to its officers, former coach Gerard Mandelbaum 3L, and its faculty adviser, Frederick C. Packard, Jr. '40, associate professor of Public Speaking, after discussing for four hours the recent charges of "improper and extra-legal" administration. The vote was 28 for, one against, and eight abstaining.

After the vote Council President Melvin L. Zurier '50 said "Tonight's vote is proof that the Debate Council is strong enough to stand up under the unfortunate and unjustified charges leveled against the present administration."

Stewart Replies

Richard S. Stewart '51, who led the group making the charges, stated last night that the officers had "exaggerated and misinterpreted the charges to the Council members." He said that by "interpreting the charges as personal smears, they hampered factual inquiry."

Election of new officers was postponed until Monday.
