The Debate Council took first place in the Ivy League last night by gaining a unanimous decision over Pennsylvania University in Philadelphia.
William C. Becker '51 and Melvin L. Zurier '50 argued the negative on "Resolved, That basic industries be nationalized," ousted Penn from second place and put the Crimson on top. In the afternoon, Becker and Zurier won a unanimous non-league victory over Temple, debating the same subject.
The Council has come from last to first place in the league in the last two days by virtue of the Penn win, and a decision over Princeton on Monday. The debaters will meet the College of New Rochelle, and Barnard today.
