John Caulfield, of Cambridge, was elected after yesterday's game to captain next year's varsity baseball team. Caulfield plays left field and is one of the team's most reliable hitters.
Also at yesterday's post-game elections, third-baseman Ernie Mannino was awarded the Wingate Trophy, and Captain Walt Coulson received the Wendell Bat.
The Wingate Trophy is given each year to the player considered most valuable to the team by the coaches and manager. The Wendell Bat goes to the player accumulating the most points, one point being given for each safe arrival at first base, stolen base, sacrifice, and run batted in.
Coulson and catcher Clif Crosby were tied for the Bat going into Monday's Yale game at New Haven, but Crosby's injury in the second inning of that game put him out of the running.
