'52 Baseball Team, Outhit 13-6, Beats Terriers, 4-2

Captain Jack Donelan scattered 13 Boston University hits for his second win as the freshman nine came up with some fine defensive play for a 4 to 2 victory at Nickerson Field yesterday afternoon.

The Yardlings launched four of their six hits in the third inning for three runs. Donelan, dropped from fourth to ninth in the batting order, led off the frame with a double. Win Carduff, Bill Hickey, and Henry Young followed with singles.

The freshmen picked up another run in the fourth on singles by Ralph Robinson and Hen Akillian and on some mediocre Terrier fielding.

Glovework Improves

After blowing their last two games with gruesome defensive work, the '52 squad came up with three double plays yesterday to keep Donelas out of trouble.

Second baseman Win Carduff and shortstop Henry Young set up the first double play, and Carduff and Charlie Cabot engineered the other two after Young had left the game with a pulled leg muscle.

Charlie Walsh started his first game of the year behind the plate and thoroughly enjoyed himself picking off stray BU runners as they attempted to swipe extra bases.

Off to Races

Poor baserunning by the Terriers contributed heavily to their defeat, as they strove repeatedly and vainly to stretch singles into doubles and doubles into triples. One man was thrown out stealing home with the bases loaded and one out, and two doubles in one inning failed to produce a run for the BU freshmen.
