8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
MIT played host to the varsity tennis team yesterday afternoon and absorbed a 7-2 defeat for its hospitality.
The high point of the afternoon was the number one doubles match which Harvard won by the amazing score of 16-14, 7-5. Bud Ager and Hilliard Hughes were the players in this marathon match.
Aside from this one, three matches went to three sets and two others contained sets where the score mounted beyond the usual.
Ager and Ted Bullard playing numbers one and two singles, and Jack Frey and Howie Swartzman playing numbers five and six were the winners for the Crimson squad in the singles competition. Swartzman hasn't played for the varsity since early in April. He has been occupied with a thesis and generals in the intervening time.
Harvard swept the doubles 3 to 0. Besides the high scoring first match, Jay Robb and Dave Key won 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 in the second, and Paul Tobias and Dick Hatton won 7-5, 6-4.
The two losing varsity men were Charlie Ames and Hilliard Hughes. They were defeated by Morly Drucker of Tech 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, and Amos Roberts, 6-3, 6-2.
