Monday and Wednesday the lacrosse team played against teams more enthusiastic than skilled. Today it returns from the world of soft touches to play a real opponent, Springfield at Springfield.
According to reports filtering in by way of the coaches' grapevine, Springfield is a much improved, well-conditioned, hardhitting team. "It's a dangerous opponent," is the consensus.
Springfield is in the New England Lacrosse League, as are Williams and Yale, the remaining one-two punch for the Varsity. So far the team's record in NELL play is three and one--wins over MIT, New Hampshire, and Tufts; and a loss, alas to Dartmouth.
This looks fine, but considered in terms of the NELL itself which is rather 5like the American League-half good and half miserable--it means little. The coming three games, with teams that rate about even with the Varsity, will be the test of Bruce Munro's team.
Anybody's Guess
The Springfield game will also be interesting for another reason; it will be the third game this year in which the outcome has not been known in advance. The Varsity has lost the only other games in this category (Penn and Dartmouth).
Thursday the squad indulged with gusto in the most vigorous scrimmage it has yet had.
