Wild's Northwestern Job Confirmed; MacLeish to Occupy Boylston Chair

Wild to Become Vice-President And Dean of Faculties After Finishing Spring Term Here

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Payson S. Wild, Jr., Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and professor of Government, has been appointed vice-President and Dean of Faculties at Northwestern University, the school's Board of Trustees announced at noon yesterday. The statement confirmed reports published two weeks ago in the CRIMSON that Dean Wild was resigning his Harvard posts to assume a job at Northwestern.

Northwestern ordinarily has two vice-presidents, one in charge of business affairs and the other in charge of the various faculties of the school. Each of these schools (school of liberal arts, school of journalism, etc.) have their own deans who are directly responsible to the Dean of the Faculties.

Job Vacant for Year

For over a year, the post of vice-President and Dean of Faculties at Northwestern has been vacant. The last holder of the position was Fred Dow Fagg, now president of the University of Southern California.

Dean Wild will receive between $12,000 and $15,000 a year in his new job, Evanston sources stated last night. This is approximately the same salary he receives at Harvard, it was reported.

The Northwestern University news office said yesterday that Dean Wild will take over his new position on August 1. No announcement has been made as yet of his successor as Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Dean Wild Came to Harvard in the fall of 1926 as a student, received his M.A. in 1927 and his Ph.D. in 1931.
