Sophomore John Hessel was high scorer for the rifle team Saturday, enabling it to place second in a shoulder-to-shoulder triangular match with Boston University and the University of Connecticut. The UConns just managed to edge the Crimson squad, 1384 to 1382.

The Crimson ski teams finished fifth out of six teams in the Williams Carnival Meet last weekend to improve on last year's standing in this same meet when they finished last. In the annual Class C meet at Intervale, Noel Scullin was Harvard's best representative, finishing 20th in a field of 81 contestants.

The New York Knickerbockers yesterday cut Ed Smith, Crimson basketball captain in 1951, from their active player list and made him their second alternative.
