Office States Librarian Job Outlook Good

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The employment outlook for future professional librarians is now as good as it ever will be, the Office of Student Placement announced this week. The Placement announced this week. The Placement Office called attention to a number of loans and scholarship stipends which now make it possible for students who contemplate careers in any branch of library work to secure the proper advance training.

In recent months, the Office has received notices of training programs and positions open at three of the countries largest libraries--the College, Brooklyn Public, and the Library of Congress.

The College Library, which includes Widener and the University's 80-odd other collections, has available two internships for next year, offering stipends of $1600-2000 each. The Brooklyn Public Library, on a similar arrangement, pays college graduate trainees $2100 a year, and helps them to take courses, while working, library schools at Columbia or Pratt Institute.

The Library of Congress, as usual, has many openings in its vast staff, which includes everything from experts in paleontology to researches in Orientalia, as well as those with the more standard librarian duties.

The Placement Office also called attention to the fact that the Massachusetts Library Association is offering loans to any student who wants to attend an accredited school of library training, either in Boston or elsewhere.

Complete information on library training and positions may be obtained at the Placement Office in Weld Hall.
