'52 Nine Throws Revamped Team Against Dummer

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Paul Samborski will catch for the Governor Dummer nine when his father, Coach Dolph, sends his freshman team into its second game of the season at 3 p.m. today on Soldiers Field.

Coach Samborski is still experimenting in his lineups--he will do so for the next two or three games--and this afternoon's batting order will bear only a light resemblance to the one that went to a ten-inning 2 to 2 tie with MIT last Wednesday.

Only three positions are definitely settled: Bill Goodman catching, Win Carduff at second base, and Ben Akillian a center field. Jack Donelan will play left field when he isn't pitching and will bat clean-up until somebody else proves a more reliable slugger.

Six Men--Four Posts

The rest of the team breaks down into a competition between Tim wise and Al Switzer for the regular first base job, a four-way scramble for the right field berth, and a fight between Bill Rickey and Charlie Cabot to see if Henry Young plays short with Hickey at third or third with Cabot at short.

Having started Wise and Hickey against MIT, Samborski will probably use Switzer at first and Cabot at short (with Young at third in place of Hickey) in today's game.

Buster Connolly will take over right field this afternoon, since both Ralph Robinson and Bob Thomspon played the full game in the outfield Wednesday. Gordon Morrison will probably see most of his action as a pinch-hitter.

Either Spider Webb or Duke Simonds will be the starting pitcher.

The batting order:

Carduff 2b

Young 3b or ss

Akillian cf

Donelan lf

Switzer 1b

Connolly rf

Cabot ss or Hickey 3b

Goodman c

Simonds or Webb p
