Frosh Heavyweight Ravreby Again Scores 1st Round KO

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Anyone who wants to take Fred Ravreby's University heavyweight crown away from him in the next three years is welcome to try. Scoring his second first round knockout in two weeks, Ravreby, a freshman, kayoed Dale Chadwick, last year's University heavyweight champion, in 1:10 of the first round to end the University Boxing Championship finals held in the Blockhouse yesterday afternoon.

Ravreby, right tackle on the freshman football team this fall, set up Chadwick, no mean boxer himself, with a series of jolting left jabs to the face for his final right to the jaw. Two weeks ago, Ravreby scored a one minute TKO over Leland Schoen of Stoughton to win the freshman heavy-weight title.

In another bout, Bob Ellis of the Law School outpointed Bob Boyd of Lionel to win the 165 pound title. Boyd was landing solid left jabs to the face near the end of the fight, but Ellis's aggressiveness and the fact that he almost knocked Boyd through the ropes with a right in the second round, earned him the close decision.

John Baker of Dudley, House 155 pound champion, easily added the 155 pound University title to his laurels by whipping Cyril Devery of Kirkland. Knocked through the ropes in the third round, Devery hung on to finish out the fight.

At 145, Tom Butler of Dunster once again proved his superiority over Winthrop's Ed Riley by decisioning him in almost a repetition of their last fight. Butler defeated Riley two weeks ago in the House finals.

In the 175 pound class, James McNear of Winthrop decisioned Joe Sink of Kirkland.

Winthrop's Joe Vera retained his 135 pound title by besting freshman Joe Doherty.
