Students Vote to Keep Brown Wet

Brown University fraternity men stamped out a sudden drive to outlaw alochol from the Providence campus at a mass meeting Wednesday night which had been called by "independent" students to end discriminatory fraternity membership clauses.

The meeting was called as a result of an inter-fraternity brawl which swept the campus last Friday night, leaving black eyes and broken windows in its wake.

The discussion was led by Jack Gurveyan '50, an independent and president of the glee club. He suggested a ban on campus drinking. Joe Paterno '50, co-captain of the Bruin football team and a DKE, led the opposition. "We can't turn Brown into a seminary," he said.
