Robert Claflin '50 of Hewlett, Long Island, New York and Winthrop House, was elected captain of the varsity wrestling team yesterday.
He succeeds Dan Ray, who was graduate this month. Ray, enrolled in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, is currently a proctor in Wigglesworth Hall.
Claflin a Consistent Performer
Claflin has wrestled at 175 pounds for two years. A consistently reliable performer, he took a fourth in the eastern semi-finals last March. A sprained ankle kept Claflin out of the Crimson's opening matches with MIT and Wesleyan this year but in his first start Claflin won a 6-3 decision at Columbia.
Coach Butch Jordan added another worry to his growing list yesterday when Dave Coombs quit the team because he is 17 pounds overweight. Joe Kozol will wrestle at 121 Saturday.
