The exact number of students that field through Memorial Hall Monday was 5080, Registrar Sargent Kennedy '28, reveled last night. Of this total 5021 were holdovers from the last term. The remaining 59 are men who had been at Harvard before but who have been on leaves of absence.
Sixty-one students, five of whom were not in attendance at Harvard during the fall term, failed to register. Late registrants must make their presence known with the Registrar's office and unless they concoct brilliant excuses they face disciplinary action, most probably in the form of a fine, at the Dean's Office.
As in the past several registrations, the percentage of veterans in relation to the entire student body grew smaller. During this spring registration, however, it is doubtful if there was more than a five percent drop below the 41.8 percent ex-servicemen recorded in the total enrollment last September.
Besides processing registration data, the Registrar's office is also recording all grades. Kennedy said that with the help of a battery of IBM machines his office hopes to have marks on the way to students within two weeks.
