George it. Agassiz '84, founder of the Agassiz Research Fellowships in Astronomy, has been named an honorary patron the American Astronomical Society.

One of only two men ever honored in this way, Agassiz established in 1927 the fellowships under which many of the country's leading astronomers have trained. He is on the Visiting Committee of the College Observatory and financed the living quarters and tennis courts connected with it.

Agassiz is also a former president of the Board of Overseers.

The appointment was announced yesterday by Harlow Shapley, Paine Professor of Practical Astronomy and director of the Observatory. Shapley is a past president and a member of the Governing Council of the Society.
