Lowell's Johnny Goldsmith scored 21 points to lead the unbeaten Bellboy team to a 47-40 victory over the second place Dudley quintet at the Indoor Athletic Building last night.
The closely fought game between the two top teams of the inter-House circuit was the chief event in a day packed with House athletics, including eight league basketball games and one hockey clash.
The Lowell-Dudley tilt was not decided until the final minutes, when the smoothly working league leaders broke away from a 38-38 tie to win their ninth straight contest. Pacing the losers was John Woods, who sank nine out of nine free throws, and added 19 points to his squad's total.
Winthrop Downs Eliot
In the Winthrop-Eliot fray, centerman Ted Nelson of the Puritans outjumped center Bob Crichton of Eliot to keep Winthrop ahead during the entire game. The final score was 38-26.
Along with an effective offense, the Winthrop five retained a strong defense, which was the leading factor in their easy win. Scoring honors for the game fell to Nelson, with 14 points, while Crichton led the losers with ten.
Elsewhere on the class A courts, Adams bounced to an easy 50-38 win over Dunster, coming up from a halftime score of 20-21. Largely responsible for the Gold Coasters' victory were high scorer Frank Holt, with 14 points, and Bob Parker and Roger Davis with 13 tallies each.
Kirkland Trounces Leverett
Kirkland gained an equally impressive win over Leverett with a score of 49-35. High pointer in this case was Deacon Dan Rourke, with 20 points.
On the Arena rinks early yesterday morning, Eliot's first place hockey team sped to a 7-2 victory over the Adams House skaters.
Scores for the class B basketball games are: Adams 34, Dunster 28; Dudley 36; Lowell 31; Kirkland 38, Leverett 21; and Winthrop 50, Eliot 24.
