Felton Wins First AAU Title

Sam Felton, Jaakko Mikkola's former star weight chucker, came through to win the National AAU 35 pound weight throwing event, as predicted, in New York Saturday night. He narrowly beat out two collegians and two Olympians with a throw of 57 feet, 11 3/4 inches. Bob Bennett of Rhode Island, last year's winner and number one weight thrower in the Olympics, failed to place.

While at Harvard, Felton set the Briggs Cage record for this event. During the current season he has made a new Cage record and has won the Mayor O'Dwyer Trophy.

Felton, a Business School student who commutes to New York for his meets, went to London with the Olympic team last summer. He placed fourth in the hammer throw at that time.

He was favored to win in the IC4A and National AAU last year and the National AAU this year, but Saturday night was the first time he lived up to expectations. Jack Servis of Cornell was runner-up with a throw of 57 feet, 8 7/8 inches.
