Wired-Up Swordsmen Slash Cornell, 18-7; Freshmen Win

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With masks on their faces and electric wires trailing from their belts, the varsity fencers looked more like Men from Mars Saturday afternoon as they sliced a 19 to 8 victory out of Cornell in the Blockhouse.

The swordsmen were using the electric epco for the first time in College history, and for one of the first times in New England. The epco rang a buzzer and flashed a light whenever it scored a touch.

The team did best in epee and sabers, and nicked a close 5 to 4 win in foils. It was their second win in two days, on the second match of the season, and it avenged last year's defeat by Cornell.

Meanwhile, the freshmen went to Andover and won their meet 13 to 5. This is the first year of fencing for all but two of the yearlings.

The freshmen left their saber squad at home because Andover had trained no men in that department. VARSITY RESULTS: Foll-Arp 1-1, Raney 1-2, Vera 2-1, Frankman 1-0. Epoe-Yates 3-0, Heger 2-1, Constable 2-1, Westhrin 1-0, Gay 2-1, Masterson 2-1, Carter 2-0.
