Brown, Rhode Island State Sweep Firsts in Informal Track Opener

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Three Crimson relay teams staged a two-event winter debat yesterday in an informal Briggs Cage meet against Brown and Rhode Island State, but it was the visitors who ran off with the honors.

Brown won the varsity two-mile race, and Rhode Island defeated the Yardlings in the mile relay.

In the two-mile event, the Bruin team of Les Midgley, Joe Toby, John Toby, and Josh Toby outran the Crimson mile-relay quartet of Ed Grutzner, Harvey Thayer, Ron Berman, and Tom McGrath. The home side's two-mile team came in third, and the Brown freshmen, who were lapped, trailed the field.

The four Rhode Island State freshmen came from behind to nose out the Yardlings in a thrilling finish to the mile event. Bob Twitchell, Dave Osues, Tad Brown, and Paul Judy were the close losers for the Crimson.

Crimson coaches expressed satisfaction with their squads respective times.
