Judged from the experience of the Cambridge Tuberculosis Association, the Harvard Combined Charities way of soliciting contributions is a success.
Miss Anna Brown, Executive Secretary of the Association, yesterday released figures which show a $600 increase in receipts from Harvard students under the Combined Charities system of pledges and individual solicitation.
In 1947, the Association mailed 200 Christmas seals to every student in the University. If the student wished to contribute, he sent in two dollars to the Association; otherwise, he could return the seals. Under this plan, the Association netted $2500.
Last year, students indicated the charity to which they wished to contribute. The Association then mailed seals only to those who showed a preference for the Tuberculosis Fund. With student solicitors following up the pledges, the Association made $3100.
Students this year will again be able to earmark their contributions for the Association. Though the featured charities on the pledge card are those that are mainly student-supported, the Tuberculosis Fund can also be subscribed to on the card.
