8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
Playing in the Ithacan armory, the Crimson polo team upset a strong Cornell squad, 15 to 14, last Saturday night in an informal contest.
Harvard's three-man indoor team of Captain Walter Beveraggl at number two position, Tom Calhoun at number one, and his brother Sandy at back, got a slow start in the unfamiliar building. Cornell, which had just returned from defeating Princeton, 16 to 4, had a 3 to 0 lead at the end of the first chukker.
Three Goals
The next chukker saw Berveraggi drive in three goals, with Tom Calhoun also scoring. At the same time, Sandy Calhoun held the Ithacans to two tallies, making the count 5 to 4 in favor of Cornell at the start of the third period.
Harvard pulled ahead during the third chukker as Beveraggi rapped in four scores, with Tom Calhoun getting one. Cornell was limited to two points.
Leading 9 to 7 at the beginning of the final chukker, the Crimson team put the game away by adding six more tallies as Cornell doubled their score. Tom Calhoun counted three times, his brother twice, and Beveraggi, on a poor mount, once. A last minute drive by Cornell resulted in four goals in two minutes, leaving the Big Red one short of a tie.
