President Shigern Nambara of Tokyo University will arrive in Cambridge today for a two-day visit, Edwin O. Reischaner, professor of Far Eastern Languages, announced yesterday afternoon.
The head of Japan's largest university has been in the country for a week attending conferences under the auspices of the United States Government, but he is visiting Harvard on his own.
Provost Buck will give a luncheon in his honor today and the Harvard-Yenshing Institute will give one tomorrow. Both luncheons will be held at the Faculty Club.
A Christian and a "staunch liberal," according to Reischauer, Nambara is held in high regard by the U.S. Military Government in Japan.
