Varsity Cagers Meet Fast Eagles in Garden Tonight

By Paul W. Mandel

After losing a disappointingly close game to Navy last Saturday, the varsity quintet goes back to the Garden tonight to face a fast BC squad. The varsity got off slowly against the Midshipmen, and a 39 point second half was not enough to put away the game.

Coach Norm Shepard will probably start the same quintet he has used in his last two games.

John Rockwell had trouble during the early part of last Saturday's game, but he dropped in 20 points in the second period to lead the varsity's scoring. Rockwell will be paired at his standard pivot post with Ed Smith, whose book shot has been hitting with pleasing consistency.

Working the ball down the court will be, as usual, Jim Gabler, Gerry Murphy, and Bill Hickey.

Tops in Handling

BC, which beat St. Anselm's in the second game of last Saturday's double header, has impressed Shepard as being one of the best ball-handling teams in the East. The Eagles have a swift and shifty forward, Dick Fitzgerald, who prowled all over the court against St. Anselm's, intercepting passes and sparking an otherwise loose defense. BC plays a blood-and-thunder fast-break game, with flashy passing and tricky cuts at the basket.

The probable varsity lineups: HARVARD  BC Rockwell (13)  lf  (43)O'Connell Murphy (33)  rf  (32) Fitzgerald Smith (32)  c  (35) Deegan Gabler (14)  lg  (31) O'Brien Hickey (12)  rg  (24)O'Toole
