Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
Butch Jordan's Harvard wrestling team, eight men (strong), sets out on a sevenmatch schedule by entertaining MIT this afternoon in the Blockhouse. The respective freshman teams will get things going at 2 p.m.
The Crimson has lost three key men from the team that defeated Tech a year ago, while the Engineers had a fine freshman team which beat the Yardlings and has provided Coach George Myerson with some excellent material.
There are two sophomores in Jordan's lineup today-Chip Carter and Al Sawyer-probably the most capable of last year's freshmen. Carter is filling in for Roger Wach, bothered by a bad knee, at 136. Sawyer captained the freshmen last winter and will face MIT captain Wilbur Haggerty at 155 today.
Keith Is Newcomer
The only other Crimson wrestler who did not see some action last year is Charlie Keith. He looked promising as a freshman two years ago but threw the javelin in winter track last season.
Myerson's team is strong through the middle weights-136, 145, 155-and weak at 165 and 175. Tech also has sophomore Chuck Bading handling the heavyweight slot Lars Soderberg held last year; Bading came in second at 175 in the New England freshman championships last year.
Harvard's Joe Kozol meets the same man he decisioned last December; MIT has a New England freshman champ in 128-pound Larry Foley, but Foley injured a rib during Tech's 22-12 win over Tufts last week and is not wrestling today. His place will be taken by a man who was pinned by Dave Smith last year.
Smith and Carter Have Tough Bouts
The best individual matches of the afternoon appear to be the 145 and 155-pound contests. Smith's opponent at 145 will have a decisive height advantage and is heavy through the shoulders, but he comes up against a man who knows a great deal about wrestling. If Carter can stay with John Hansen, another New England freshman champion, the 136-pound fight should be an interesting one, too.
This is not an opening match to be taken lightly. With no football team to worry about, MIT places a greater emphasis on wrestling. Myserson has had his men working out since late October and the Engineers have one victory to their credit already.
In the middle and heavyweight bouts, the two teams appear to be fairly well-matched. Captain Bob Claflin is making his debut as a heavy, having wrestled at 175 last year, and should be able to take care of Bading. The outcome of the match may well depend on how the lower weight battles come out.
