'53 Soccer Team Defeats Medford High by 1-0 Score

Freshman soccer players scored one goal in the third period yesterday and shut out Medford High, 1 to 0, in a game on the Business School Field.

Still groggy from their gruelling game with Andover on Saturday, the freshmen couldn't form their attack in the first half and only the stellar defensive play of fullbacks Charley Ufford and Bob Sobel enabled goalie Rog Taylor to break up the frequent Medford threats.

Taylor, who just recently became goalie, broke up a series of corner and indirect penalty kicks throughout the first half, enabling the Crimson offense to adjust itself.

Shortly after the third period opened, the Crimson began to move up field, and in 1:45 of the quarter Pete Moffat took a pass from Ben Sandberg and scored the only goal of the game.

Although the game started out slowly for the locals offensively, the ball was constantly in the Medford zone during the final periods when the team began to hustle.
