Eli Freshmen Meet Yardling Soccer Squad

When the Freshman soccer team take the field against Yale this afternoon, Coach Poley Guyda will be watching a team that has run hot and cold all season.

Notably a second half club, the freshmen have improved considerably since the days of early season difficulties; they have gone undefeated in their last six games. Coach Guyda has commented on this rise in fortune with two explanations: the Yardings have finally learned to "beat the other team to the ball," and they have built up their passing game by "keeping the ball on the carpet."

These two factors, combined with recently successful lineup experiments, have placed the freshmen in a more formidable position than they have been all year.

Sandberg Leads Scoring

Bongt Sandberg, who has taken over center forward position on Guyda's foreword wall leads the Crimson in scoring, having tallied his fourth goal against Tufts on Tuesday. However, offense has not been the Crimson's most salient feature.

In 11 games the locals have scored only 15 goals. The significant feature is that they have limited their opponents to only seven tallies, without giving up any scores at all in their last five games.

The actual strength of the Yale team which the Crimson will meet this afternoon can not be accurately determined. Like the locals the Blue eleven has played in spurts, looking good at times. However, last year the Eli team had had a poor season and could not be rightfully compared to the once detested Yardlings.
