Deacons, Bunnies Tie, 6-6; Bellboys Beat Dudley 26-0

Leverett clinched third place in the House football league yesterday afternoon on Soldiers Field by tieing Kirkland 6 to 6. Meanwhile Lowell unleashed a four-touchdown scoring spree against Dudley, winning 26 to 0.

The Deacons relied on power plays from their single wing attack to grind out their yardage, and lone touchdown. It took Kirkland 19 plays to march from its own 30-yard line in the second period to the Leverett four, where fullback Tom Lamb scored on a line plunge.

Long Run

Leverett used similar offense tactics on the ground, but took to the air more frequently with Dick Reynolds' passing. Unlike the Deacons who scored the hard way, the Bunnies registered their score on a 45-yard off-tackle slant play by Jim Wykoff.

The Bellboys finally assembled some blocking to go with their flashy T attack, and had little trouble baffling the Commuters with their pitchouts, faking, and passes. Lowell didn't score until the second period when Bob Woodruff ploughed across from the one foot line.

Second Score

Woodruff engineered the second Bellboy score by passing to Jim Noonan who spun out of the Commuter safety man's grasp to score standing up. Dudley tried to get back into the game in the second half with Dave Gilbert's running and Bob Whoriskey's passing, but Lowell's Irv Karassik stifled the Commuter threat by intercepting a pass on the Bellboy 35.

Brooks Wilder's end runs in the fourth quarter set up the third Lowell score, a ten yard pass from Woodruff to end Ed Thayer. The Bellboys tossed in their dividend touchdown at the close of the game on a well-executed lateral play, Woodruff to Bob Duncan to Karassik.
