A $300,000 gift for the establishment of an endowed professorship in retailing has been given the University, President Conant announced last night.

The new position at the Business School has been given in honor of the 84-year-old president of Filene's Department Store of Boston and is called the Lincoln Filene Professorship of Retailing. The gift was initiated by the directors and officers of the Federated Department Stores.

"This professorship gives new impetus to retail studies, a subject which was first taught here in 1920," Business School Dean Donald K. David said last night.
