Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
"They acted like gentlemen most of the time, not like soccer players," one Dartmouth team member remarked to a mate at the close of yesterday's game. He was right, too; there isn't a better way to explain why the Crimson soccer team was upset, 3 to 0, by Dartmouth on the Business School Field.
Harvard, which played magnificently Tuesday in losing 1 to 0 to champion Connecticut, played a different brand of ball yesterday. After working fairly well in the first pieces, the team just seemed to go to pieces for the rest of the game, neglecting teamwork when at midfield and forgetting careful shooting when in the Dartmouth crease. "It wasn't a matter of being outclassed," Coach Bruce Munro said after the game. "We were just plain outscrapped."
Dartmouth Scores Early
It was immediately after the Crimson first period attack let up that Dartmouth scored its first goal. At 4:35 of the second period, Indian inside right Bill Leshure took a pass and beat Crimson goalie Whoop Batchelder from 25 feet out.
No further scoring occurred in the first half, but early in the third quarter Crimson fullback Mike Scully--playing one of his best games--was bumped in a collision. Before he could have a few stitches taken in a cut in the back of his head and return to the game, the Green had booted in two more goals and insured its victory.
Outside left Nat Clark kicked in another Dartmouth pass at 11:10, and two minutes later center forward Bob Hopkins broke through all alone and scored at 13:25 on a 30 foot shot.
Crimson Rallies
The Crimson staged a mild rally in the fourth period, but when the passes worked, the shots were wide. Dartmouth was also fighting just as hard to keep its shutout.
