Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
Four undergraduates returned to Cambridge at 4 p.m. yesterday with a tale of failure. The quartet claimed to have reached Philadelphia on their way to Beverly Hills, California, in an effort to bring movie starlet Janet Leigh back to Cambridge for a football game.
Their story runs like this: Goode P. Davis '52 said to Charles P. Dribben '51 early this week, "How would you like a date with Janet Leigh?" Dribben, whose intended Army game date at Radcliffe had turned him down, said, "Sure, let's call."
Unable to reach her by phone or to get an answer to a telegram, Davis, Pierre Lelandais '52, illiam EW.W. Gowen '52, and Charles J.N. Bailey '50 allegedly persuaded Dribben to accompany them in a dash across the country in Lelandais car to see Mis Leigh in person.
The five men left Cambridge at about midnight and were close to the Connecticut border at about 2:30 a.m. yesterday morning, they said. They flagged down a Greyhound bus and sent Dribben back to College to "get things ready," they said.
The remaining four claim that when they reached Philadelphia yesterday morning, they called a friend and had him send a wire to Dribben: "Clearing Philadelphia. Only one flat tire. The Boys." They said they did not have enough money to send the wire themselves. The friend sent it collect.
Shortly after this, they decided to give up, they said. Lelandais' parents are arriving in New York from France this weekend, Davis' siste rand his Army game date are due in Cambridge today, and the quartet had less than $40 between them.
In addition, two have hour examinations next week. Finally, none of them knows where Miss Leigh lives, they said.
"We just didn't think about these things when we left," they sad.
Meanwhile, Dribben received a telegram from Miss Leigh yesterday afternoon thanking him for the invitation but informing him her studio would not permit the trip.
