Varsity Begins Workouts For Army

Team Watches Movies Of Cornell Encounter; Injury List Uncertain

By Charles W. Bailey

The varsity football team began the drive towards its toughest game of the season yesterday, but there was no indication that Art Valpey and his well-tapped men felt pessimistic about their impending visitors from Army.

The team followed its usual Monday routine-a couple of hours in the Dillon lounge looking at the Cornell movies, then 90 minutes on the field. Group work, backfield and line drills, and a fast dummy scrimmage comprised the openair schedule.

They're Coming Along"

Valpey, in a rarely unpessimistic mood, seemed reasonably pleased with what he had seen in the movies of Saturday's embroglio. "They made some improvements, "he commented. "They're coming along. They certainly can hold their heads up after that one."

As for Army, Art evinced no surprise over its victory at Ann Arbor. "That was no upset," was the only comment he had to offer. "You can't stay up on a string like that for more than a couple of years; it isn't healthy."

The scouting reports brought back by Bill Barclay have been only partially dissected, so a complete report on the Cadets was not forthcoming. Valpey did remark on the fact that Army has "four or five sophomores" in the defensive platoon that held the strong Michigan attack to seven points Saturday, and allowed its opponents to complete a mere three of 23 pass attempts.

Doubtful Starters

The injury list, a disquieting factor in Harvard's football picture all season, is still indefinite. Howie Houston and John Coan returned Saturday for oneway service and came through without further damage; but Chief Bender, Stretch Mazzone, Hal Moflie, and Jim Kenary are still doubtful quantities.
