The lowly Chicago Cubs struck another blow at the Cardinals' pennant hopes yesterday by edging the Redbirds, 6 to 5. Ace St. Louis outfielder Stan Musial committed one of his rare errors in a bad spot, for the two runs that scored subsequently proved to be the winning margin. Bob Rush was the winning pitcher for Chicago though he was aided by four shutout innings of relief pitching by Walter Dubiel.
In today's games, Ralph Branca (13-5) will go for the Dodgers at Philadelphia against Philly ace Ken Heinizelman (17-9). At Chicago, Cardinal Harry Brecheen (14-10) will oppose Bob Chipman (6-8).
