University Shakes Up Service Departments

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A streamlining of University service departments goes into effect this week when three previously separate branches are coordinated under one office. Irving B. Parkhurst, whose title is changed from Superintendent to Director of Buildings and Grounds, will head the new setup.

Vice-President Reynolds also announced new changes in the titles and duties of other senior administrative personnel. Charles C. Crosby, assistant to the vice-president, stated that the arrangements were made to insure more efficient administration in the service departments.

Under the new system, the Buildings and Grounds Department will now have full charge of the branches of construction, maintenance, and police. Parkhurst's office will then have full responsibility for new building and alterations, and will also supervise the Harvard Medical School power plant.

Roberts Heads Maintenance

Cecli A. Roberts, former Superintendent of Caretaking, will direct actual maintenance of University Buildings as new Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. All servicing and repairs will be under his jurisdiction.

Maintenance at the Business School and at Soldiers Field, however, will be under Clifford A. Foster, the new Assistant Superintendent. He will be able to consult directly with Vice-President Reynolds on development and maintenance of the plant there.

Biggar Becomes Special Aid

James Biggar '13, former head of caretaking, will become Special Assistant to the Administrative Vice-President. His duties will consist of making special studies and reports for the vice-president.

From now on general supervision of the Harvard University Police and the Security Service will be with the office of Charles C. Pyne, Assistant to the vice-President, but Alvin Randall will still continue as Chief of both groups.
