WHRV Ends 207 Hour Marathon

After 207 hours and three minutes of continuous broadcasting, WHRV shut down the longest musical orgy in its history Wednesday morning. It far exceeded last year's 84 hour session.

Estimating that they played 3,575 records, WHRV technicians said, "We're surprised the transmitter didn't blow up, or that the turntable ball bearings didn't give out."

Staff Lasted but Needles Didn't

The WHRV staff managed to stand up under the strain because different disc jockeys took turns spinning the records.

Only the "long life" needles couldn't take it. "It took four or five needles to play all the records," the technicians noted, "but we had two turntables and changed the needles on the run."

Responding to the orgy, listeners phoned in at all hours. "Continuous phone calls were no novelty, especially between two and four in the morning," said one announcer.
