Radcliffe students and graduates are breaking into larger male territories than Harvard. This time it's the Navy.
June Tyler '47 of Milton was one of 29 ensigns indoctrinated January 10 at the Newport, R. I. Naval Base as the first class of WAVES to receive officer's training under the Navy's peacetime program. Their acceptance overthrows the Navy's 150-year-old tradition in that women can now take on the Navy Blue as a full-time career.
At Radcliffe Miss Tyler was president of the German Club and served on the staff of the Radcliffe News. Following her graduation she taught for a year before joining up with Uncle Sam.
