Limited Dribble Will Speed Up Inter-College Basketball

When Radcliffe's basketball squad faces Pembroke March 16 fans can look forward to a faster, more exciting game than any of last year's contests. A new ruling in girls' basketball permitting a limited dribble instead of one bounce as previously allowed will definitely apply to all games between women's colleges in the New England area, Annex gym instructor Frances Falck announced yesterday.

Although several suggestions have been made to reinstitute the varsity team, intercollegiate games will continue under the club system, which lets any girl who wishes participate. "Radcliffe carried off every field hockey game but one this term under the club system, and we can do it again in basketball," Miss Falck asserted. Those who argue for a varsity squad claim it produces a more highly skilled, co-ordinated team.

After the Pembroke game at Radcliffe, the Annex squad will play Jackson College away on March 29. Another game may be scheduled with Boston University's student nurses. Several teams will compete at two play Days in March, one at Pine Manor and one at Wellesley.

Other intercollegiate meets planned for the new term include swimming meets at the Pine Manor, Wellesley Play Days and competition in modern dance and lacrosse. Miss Harriet Clarke gym instructor, also wants to extend Radcliffe extra-mural fencing, and several girls are already attending local fencing club activities.

This season basketball ranked as top sport at the Annex, with over 70 girls participating. For the new term more students registered for bowing than any other sport offered, while basketball dropped to second spot.
