Two close contests were fought in House basketball competition yesterday as Dudley edged Winthrop, 34 to 33, in the A League and Winthrop finished Dudley, 3 7 to 36, in three overtimes in the companion B League game.
In the A game Winthrop got off to a slow start, trailing 17 to 2 at one point in the first half. The game was tied when Dudley grabbed the winning point 30 seconds before the final whistle.
House squash showed more activity. In the A League Kirkland defeated Adams, 3 to 2, Lowell blanked Leverett, 5 to 0, and Winthrop beat Eliot, 3 to 2. Kirkland licked Adams, 4 to 1, in the B League.
The Yardling reading period basketball tournament was finished last night with Hollis defeating Matthews South, 27 to 23, to win the championship. The Hollis team was behind at the half and came back to triumph in overtime.
