The Young Republican Club's role in the New Student case was its most satisfying accomplishment last year, Charles K. McWhorter 3L, the group's president, said last night. He addressed the year's first meeting of the club in Emerson D.
(After the Dean's office last spring prevented the New Student, published by the HYD, from using the Harvard name and banned intra-University selling of the magazine, the Student Council held hearings on the matter. The HYRC was the only organization which testified in favor of the ban. Despite their brief, the Council recommended that the Faculty reverse its decision on the matter. This request was rejected.)
Weeks Speaks
McWhorter introduced Sinclair Weeks '14, former United States Senator and Republican Committeeman, who called the coming election "the most important of all time. No other has been more fraught with good and evil than this one," he said.
Outlining future plans, McWhorter promised that a large cheering section of the HYRC would be at Fenway Park on October 28, when Governor Dewey speaks there.
Victory Celebration
Memorial Hall has been secured for a Young Republican victory party on election night, McWhorter announced. Radio and possibly television coverage as well as refreshments were promised. However, efforts to secure Virginia Warren for a Harvard appearance were vetoed by the Governor, McWhorter reported.
He expressed satisfaction that the University's NSA delegation was saved from left-wing domination last year by the election of several Young Republicans to posts on the delegation.
