Advocates of a moderate middle-of-the road stand against Communism won out over exponents of direct action in a hotly-contested election last night to name new officers of the University Chapter of the American Veterans' Committee.
Eastman Birkett 1L was elected chairman and Leon Waks 1L vice-chairman of the local AVC as the moderate faction swept all its candidates into office.
Radcliffe cracked the ranks of officers with the election of Elizabeth Russo '50, a WAC veteran, as executive secretary. Other new officers are Richard Lyman 1G, recording secretary, and Richard K. Brown '46, treasurer and financial chairman. Seven committee heads were also named.
