Four Harvard professors have joined a list of over 300 civic, educational, religious, and labor leader protesting the showing of the motion picture "The Iron Curtain," as increasing "the atmosphere of hysteria leading us...to war."
The signers are: John A. Ciardi, Briggs-Copeland Assistant Professor of English Composition; William E. Hocking, Alford Professor of Natural Religion, Moral Philosophy, and Civil Policy, Emeritus; Kirtley F. Mather, professor of Geology; and Andre Morize, professor of French Literature.
The statement which they signed demanded that the film be withdrawn as "a violation of the United Nations declaration against war propaganda and as a grave threat to our won security."
Release of the protest followed the opening of "The Iron Curtain" at the Metropolitan Theater last Thursday.
