Crimson, Strong Dartmouth Play Crucial Lacrosse Game

All of Harvard's chances to cop the New England lacrosse title will go riding into its tilt with Dartmouth today up at Hanover, New Hampshire. A look at the record shows that the Crimson's chances are pretty slim.

Dartmouth beat Williams; Williams downed the Crimson decisively, 8 to 4. And last week the Indians steamrollered M.I.T. 21 to 2 while the Varsity only edged them in a practice bout 4 to 0.

Without a doubt, the '48 Dartmouth team is good. They have a good attack, a group of midfielders with iron constitutions, and an adequate defense. The Crimson will be definitely the underdog this afternoon by anything from 5 to 15 goals.

The Dartmouths play the same kind of lacrosse as they do football and hockey--fast, rugged, and tiring. Last year they swept to an 11 to 2 win when the Crimson attack wilted after the first 15 minutes and ceased to score.

The individual Indian is Captain Bob Merriam, who last season was the third member of Dartmouth's Riley brothers hockey line, and who was chosen All-American attackman last year with the championship New England team.

Freshman Play Away

Four victories to one loss is a good record, but the Freshman stickmen will have a difficult time maintaining their winning percentage against the Dartmouth '51 squad today. An especial disadvantage to the Yardlings is the holding of the Freshman Jubilee this weekend, which means that many of the players will not arrive in Hanover until late this morning.
