Opportunities are now available on two fronts for penny-pinched students to enjoy a summer in England at a maximum cost of their passage across, William J. Richard '49, chairman of the regional National Student Association's Committee on International Activities, announced last night.
Vacation Jobs
Richard revealed that the NSA, working in cooperation with the British National Union of Students, has arranged for students from the United States to obtain vacation jobs at harvest camps in the British Isles and at the Olympic Games in London. Those accepted for either position will receive wages amounting to considerably more than the total cost of their room and board.
Fifty Americans will be hired for work in the various harvest camps, Richard said, and must be prepared to go anywhere in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland. He estimated that they will be able to earn enough to permit a two-week holiday in Britain after the summer's harvesting.
Olympics Want Grounds Keepers
An unspecified number will also be taken as general maintenance men and grounds keepers at the Olympic Games, which will be held in the British capital from July 8 to August 20. This group will receive free admission to the sports
Richard stressed that students interested in either job should apply immediately to him or to the NSA's Committee on Student Employment in Foreign events, as well as a wage of three pounds a week
