Harlow Meets Valpey in Brief Visit

Dick Harlow returned briefly to Boston yesterday, and the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston honored the retired Crimson football coach in its annual dinner last night at the Copley Plaza.

Harlow received an inscribed gift acknowledging his "Inspiring leadership and high ideals of sportsmanship." Then he addressed the throng of football coaches, sportwriters, athletes, and their guests, overflowing the hotel's main ballroom.

Addressing most of his remarks to successor Art Valpey; also present at the head table, Harlow spoke of the exceptional friendship and fairness of local newsmen, and of the fine relationships between himself and Harvard.

The one-time titan of Soldiers Field appeared tired but otherwise cheerful and in good health.

Nils V. (Swede) Nelson '20 paid a long tribute to the ex-coach in a later speech. The dinner featured Nelson's award to Boston University placekicked. Jim Britt was master of ceremonies.
