Scholarships for study in China and England will once more go to Harvard students, University Hall announced yesterday.
Applications are being accepted for the Lingnan University and Lionel de Jersey Harvard '15 awards for study in Canton and Emmanuel College, Cambridge, England, respectively. Both grants suffered partial wartime suspension.
The Lingnan scholarships, covering tuition and room rent for one year, will be awarded to 15 American students next fall. However, University students, who before the war received credit for work done there, must now obtain Faculty approval if they wish such courses to count towards a Harvard degree.
The Cambridge award, honoring the only descondant of John Harvard ever to go to college here, will go to a Senior for one year of work. Harvard died in World War 1, and the stipend was established by his classmates.
The recipient traditionally lives in John Harvard's old suite at Emmanuel, his almo mater.
