Undergraduates will have plenty of opportunities to frolic in the sun this spring, as Dolph Samborski, director of Intramurals, has prepared a broad selection of sports for House and Yard teams.
The program, which is in the process of organization this week, will begin Monday for the House leagues, with games in baseball, softball, golf, and rowing, and a track meet later in the season.
A high command meeting this afternoon will determine most of the schedules for the competition, which may decide the Straus Trophy winner.
'Freshmen Program
Freshmen must switch over to spring activities this week and will be required to report for the usual three physical training credits. During the term, the only regular intramural league for the Yardlings will be in softball. Other activities include tennis, sailing on the Charles, and the old reliable exercise classes.
The most popular move on the sports front is the construction of the new tennis courts on Soldiers Field. The job was completed last fall with the planting of baby pine trees around the area. A whole new development is springing up behind the Business School, where more than 15 new courts will soon be available for tennis.
Enough to Go Around
One happy tennis fan, looking at the new courts waiting to be played on and remembering last year's bottleneck, mused, "Hmmm. If they put in a couple of more of those, there'll almost be enough to go around."
