Outstanding scholastic ability last night brought a trio of Freshmen three of the biggest scholarships that the College offers.
F. S. Von Stade '38, director of Scholarships, announced that the winners, chosen on the basis of their mid-year Group One records, are Sherman Henry Hawkins of Matthews Hall and Walpole, Anthony Gervin Oettinger of Weld Hall and New York City, and John Chapman Pittenger of Thayer Hall and Nottingham, Pennsylvania.
Hawkins received the Class of 1867 Scholarship. Oettinger won the N. P. Hallowell Memorial, and Pittenger was awarded the Edwards Whitaker Prize.
Pittenger hails from Phillips Exeter Academy and Oettinger attended the Bronx High School of Science.
