A possible 1,000 thread-bare European students will be wearing cast-off Brooks Brothers suits and other college-wear accoutrements shortly.
The clothing--two tons of it--was collected in a Phillips Brooks House drive last month and was sent to New York yesterday by the Church World Service, to be resorted and reclassified. It will then be shipped to Salzburg for redistribution throughout Europe by students at the Salzburg Rest Home.
Students who attended the Salzburg Seminar last year have sent estimates of clothing needs in various areas in Europe, and the clothes will be distributed according to these estimates, with priority going to sections of the Continent most in need of the clothing.
Included in the collections are 130 pairs of shoes, 211 suits, and 304 sweaters.
Brooks also stated that the 400 books collected for Europe by PBH will be sent there this week from Boston by the same organization.
