If the waters recede from Soldiers Field this afternoon, the Varsity nine will play Colby at 4 o'clock. Ira Godin, top pitcher for Dolph Samborski's slightly orratic charges, will work against the twice-beaton visitors from the north country.
The top of the batting ordes, which has produced with reasonable regularity, remains the same today, with Chip Gannon, Cliff Crosby, Ernio Mannino, and slugger Walt Coulson heading the list. From there on it's not too potent, as John Caulfield, Lennie Lunder, Myles Huntington, and Captain John Coppinger will precede Godin to the plate.
Colby has not done well so far. Their first two opponents--Bowdoin and Maine--proved too tough to be swallowed, administering 5 to 1 and 6 to 5 beatings to the Bears.
Godin Top Pitcher
Godin has to date won two games, a record which stands alone among the erratic Varsity mound staff. He stopped Johns Hopkins with a single run in the road trip opener last month, and outlasted a six-run B.U. attack to get credit for another victory Saturday.
