Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
Sam Felton set a new Harvard record in the hammer against Rhode Island State in the Stadium Saturday, but it was novel-writing Captain Frank Gurley who broke up the meet and gave the Crimson a 74 to 66 win. The loss was Rhode island State's first in 12 years of dual competition.
Gurley, running the 880-final event of the day--had to fight his way out of a neatly-constructed, three-man box and come from behind in the last 50 yards to win. Trying to move up with 220 yards to go, he was hommed in by Joe Hall, IC4A 600 champion, Bob Black, IC4A cross country champion, and Lou Gaetano.
But, with some timely advice from Coach Mikkola, he smashed his way out of the box and ran down Joe Hall in the final sprint into the yarn. Other features of Saturday's meet: Dave Hamblett's win over IC4A champion Hall in the 440; Harvey Thayer's 22-foot broadjump, the best by a Crimson athletic in several years; the good showing of Mikkola's sprinters; hurdler Pat McCormick's performances is the 120 highs and 220 lows.
