Conant Chairs Forum Debate Here Tonight

Three prominent scientists will survey "The Strategy of the Social Sciences" tonight, when the Graduate Forum presents its last discussion of the year in New Lecture Hall at 8 o'clock.

The parley will be moderated by President Conant, who, in addition to his duties as chairman, intends also to take "an active part" in the discussion. Perey W. Bridgman '04, Hollis Professor of Mathematics and Natural Philosophy, and Samuel A. Stouffer, professor of Sociology and Director of the Social Relations Laboratory, are the main speakers.

Richard D. MacCann 2G, chairman of the Forum, will introduce President Conant, who will comment on the main speeches.

Bridgman Nobel Prize Winner

Professor Bridgman, the author of "The Logic of Modern Physics," was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1946 for his research in high pressure phenomena. Professor Stouffer has done extensive work in the methods of quantitative sociology for the government and the Army.

The speakers are expected to take up the question of application of scientific method to the social sciences, and the meeting is open to the public at a charge of 50 cents.

Essay Winner Announced

According to MacCann, the winner of the $100 prize in the essay contest on "What the Social Sciences Most Need" will be announced at the meeting.

Tonight's discussion is the eighth sponsored by the Graduate Forum, which was conceived and organized last spring to study the problems and methods of the social scientist.
